A geographic information system (GIS) is a system for managing spatial data and their associated features. Geographic information system technology is used to write interactive queries, analyze spatial information, change data on maps and display the results of all these operations. GIS are specialized systems that track not only occurrences, activities, and events, but also where these occurrences, activities, and events are located. In this way, geographic location becomes an important attribute of activities, management, strategies, plans and decisions.
